As a new bowler I’ve been made very welcome into the club and have enjoyed getting to know new people.  Everyone has been very helpful with bowling tips and suggestions to improve my game and I’m enjoying the opportunity to play in both casual roll ups and friendly matches and competitions.

New to the sport of lawn bowling, we joined Herts Bowling Club in October 2021. We were made very welcome from the onset by a host of friendly people who were willing to take time out to help us become familiar with learning new skills and techniques.

Now we always look forward to the regular roll ups and hopefully in time taking part in the leagues, both in the indoor season and outdoor season to come, and especially the latter with a BBQ every Friday evening for the princely sum of £2.50!

The facilities are fabulous, the members enthusiastic and I LOVE IT!

Having enjoyed a full season of outdoor bowls with my local club, I wanted to continue the sport through the autumn/winter months, so thought I would “have a go” indoors at HBC. One always undertakes  a new venture with an element of trepidation and especially knowing that I would be meeting and playing with some experienced and very fine bowlers.

All I can say is that at HBC, the welcome has been warm and always encouraging, and I have never felt intimidated by being watched by others in fear of criticism. The facilities are fabulous, the members enthusiastic and I LOVE IT!

New players receive coaching before you start your journey.After attending an open day in May, I joined Herts bowls club and I started bowling . I am both indoor & outdoor bowls member. I would highly recommend it to everyone

I was somewhat reluctant to joining the bowls club, having never played before. Me and some golfing mates turned up for the open day and joined . l have been playing for a few weeks now  and enjoying it. Also we have found the members and staff  very friendly and helpful!

I recently joined Herts Bowling Club, never having bowled before, and have found the members to be friendly and encouraging when I’ve joined them in the roll-up. Too early to comment on the social side of the club but have taken advantage of, and enjoyed, the catering and bar facilities after playing.

At a recent new members session at the Club, I mentioned that I hadn’t received the introductory lessons on offer to new members and to date, have heard nothing more about these. I feel these would be invaluable to a beginner to better understand the game.

I am now an active beginner at Herts B.C.

Open day (second session).

I enjoyed the event and in particular one lady very kindly spent time with me which included an exercise that I could adopt on my own. She also advised on the type of bowl that may be better for an indoor surface game.

Coaching session (one off)

I found the session very helpful with advice as to how to hold the bowl and deliver the shot. The whole experience was in a very friendly environment and we all had ample time to actually practice with available club bowls.

Meet and greet afternoon.

I attended the session and found it a very relaxed way to meet other newcomers and the committee. The tea and cakes certainly helped to put us all in the right frame of mind.

Roll-ups

I have found the roll-ups are a perfect way to get involved in the activities of the club. I have found all the players on my rink exceedingly friendly and more than willing to assist and pass on their knowledge and experience. I am often praised even when all three bowls are short of the jack and probably in the way of the number two and skip. Maybe just kindness but still nice to receive.

I really love it here and feel a part of the Club!

I joined Herts Indoor Bowls in October.  The management and all the members are so supportive and friendly – giving advice about my game and  always making me feel at ease … I really love it here and feel a part of the Club!
