Rules & terms of entry for Indoor Club Competitions

Revised 2019/20

ELIGIBILITY

  • All entrants must be life, full or indoor members of Herts Bowls Club
  • Adult entry into the Novice Singles competition is open to those who have never won an Indoor competition
  • . No such restrictions apply to Juniors. Additionally, only those who have NOT won an Indoor singles competition under any indoor association or federation may enter the Novices.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  • All entrants must be available for the whole of both days of finals weekend. ( Please note that it may also be necessary to utilise the Friday in the event of entrants reaching a number of finals). Entrants will be expected to play in accordance with the programme.
  • A completed entry form together with a fee of £3.00 per person per event must be received by the club on or before the closing date of Friday 17th Dec 2021.

LAWS OF THE GAME

All competitions will be subject to the current ‘Laws of the Sport of Bowls’ as published by the World Bowls Council.

  • Any disputes or queries shall be referred to the Competition Organiser whose decision, in consultation with the Indoor Committee, shall be final.

 

ARRANGING GAMES (Applies to all rounds except the Finals)

  • The first round of competitions will be scheduled to start in the week of 3rd Jan 2022
  • The challenger(s) (the first named on the draw sheet) is/are to offer 3 dates to their opponents. The 3 dates must not be consecutive nor all in the same week (a week commences on a Monday & ends on a Sunday).
  • For the first round, challengers are to offer dates no later than 3 weeks before the end of the round.
  • For the second & subsequent rounds, dates are to be offered within 5 days of the start of the round to be played.
  • After the stipulated periods, if no dates have been offered, the right to offer dates passes to the opponent(s).
  • All rounds are to be completed on or before the closing dates.
  • Extensions may be given under exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Competition Secretary. For example, as league teams have sufficient members to release people to play in competitions, having to play in the regular evening leagues will not be accepted as an exceptional circumstance nor will absence due to planned holidays.
  • In the event of a game not being completed by the due date, the winner of the round will be determined by the toss of a coin unless the Competition Secretary is notified that the game has been ‘given’.
  • Matches are to be arranged at times mutually agreed by all parties within the rink booking periods shown in the Bowlr booking system.
  • Club competitions are not to be booked during programmed roll-up times. Wherever possible competition games should utilise any spare rinks available during the weekday evening league times or when matches indicate that fewer than 6 rinks are being used. The rink calendar shows when space is available.
  • The challenger in a singles competition is to provide the marker.
  • No player is permitted to play for more than one team in the same competition.
  • In the following rules, the term ‘original entry’ is defined as the team consisting of those playershe winner(s) of each game is to ensure that 1 fully completed score card, signed by both challenger and opponent is placed in the box provided, located by the Green Ranger’s desk. and enterered into the bowlr system via the ipads.

GENERAL RULES

  • No player is permitted to play for more than one team in the same competition.
  • In the following rules, the term ‘original entry’ is defined as the team consisting of those playerswho play in the first tie.
  • In all PAIRS games, 1 member of the original entry must play in each tie

RULES FOR SUBSTITUTES

  • If a substitute is used, he/she must be of a similar or higher club handicap to the person being replaced. For example, if a player has a club handicap of 5, then the substitute should have a clubihandicap of 5 or 6 or 7 etc. A player with a club handicap of 4 or lower cannot be used in this instance.
  • If either the player to be substituted or indeed the proposed substitute does not have a club handicap, the Competition Organiser should be informed and will arrange for a handicap to be allocated.
  • In the PAIRS and TRIPLES games, 1 additional player may be used as a substitute at any time.
  • In the DRAWN PAIRS, the names of 2 substitutes should be provided to the Competition Organiser who will draw the substitute to play. The organiser reserves the right to include alternative players.
  • A substitute may play in any position but in a resumed game (a game interrupted through illness or any other reason) a substitute cannot play skip. (Ref: Laws of the Sport of Indoor Bowls section 13: Influenced Affecting Play).

DRESS CODE

Greys to be worn in all rounds except finals which will be Whites.

 

PRESENTATION EVENING

Please refer to club noticeboard for details nearer the time.

 

N.B.

It should be appreciated that no code of laws governing a sport has yet achieved such perfection as to cope with every situation. Unusual incidents not definitively provided for in the laws frequently occur. Please therefore remember that the laws have been framed in the belief that true sportsmanship will prevail and that, in the absence of an express law, common sense will find a way to provide an acceptable solution to a problematic situation.

COMPETITION FORMAT

Mens Championship Singles                                   

Game to be played to the first to reach 21 shots.

Mens Novice Singles                                           

Game to be played to the first to reach 21 shots.

Mens Championship Pairs                                     

Game to be played to 21 ends. In the event of a tie an extra ends shall be played until a decision is reached.

Mens Two Wood Singles                                      

Game to be played to 21 ends. In the event of a tie an extra ends shall be played until a decision is reached.

Mens Drawn Pairs                                     

Game to be played to 21 ends. In the event of a tie an extra ends shall be played until a decision is reached.

Mixed Pairs                                     

Game to be played to 21 ends. In the event of a tie an extra ends shall be played until a decision is reached.

Mixed Australian Pairs                                     

Game to be played to 18 ends. No visits to the head are permitted except during the changeover of players. In the event of a tie an extra ends shall be played until a decision is reached.

Mixed Triples                                    

Game to be played to18 ends. In the event of a tie an extra ends shall be played until a decision is reached.

Two Wood Mixed Triples                                    

Game to be played to 21 ends. In the event of a tie an extra ends shall be played until a decision is reached.

Mixed Fours (BENSKINS Trophy)                               

Game to be played to 21 ends. In the event of a tie an extra ends shall be played until a decision is reached.

Mixed Fixed Jack                              

Game to be played to 75 shots. Competition to be played on Saturday 12th Feb 2022.

Ladies Two Wood Day                           

Game to be played to 21 ends. In the event of a tie an extra end shall be played until a decision is reached. Competition to be played on Sunday 23 Jan 2022.
